Cyberpunk Alleyway

a UHD live animated environment made in Unreal Engine, using Nanite, modeled in Autodesk Maya, and textured in Adobe Substance

'Cyberpunk Alleyway' is the generic name given for this particular univerity assignment, where I was tasked with using Unreal's 'Nanite' system to create a full 4K-UHD evnvironment that can be run in real-time.

Aside from decals, there are no premade assets to be found here- all models and textures were individually modeled, uv-mapped, and textured from scratch!

The purpose of this assignment was demonstrate my proficiecy at designing a highly detailed level at every step of the 3d environment production pipeline-

touching on everything from framing and composition, to asset planning and level structuring, to modeling and texturing assets, to lighting and audio passes.

This project was first assigned at the start of September 2025, and lasted 12 weeks concluding at the start of December that same year, with only approximately 4-9 hours worked on per week, totaling about 70-90 hours of work done in total for the whole of the project.

With this project done, I can pretty confidently say now that I've done quality work of every step of the game development pipeline, with the exception of audio design and sound engineering. Beyond that, however, this covered a big one of my few remaining-to-be-honed core disciplines, that being of 3d modeling and texturing. I saved it for last as I had predicted it'd be my least favorite of them, and while my actual least favorite actually ended up being animation and rigging, I was right in assuming it wan't my forte. That is at least in comparison to the others, such as systems design and scripting, which I have a strong fondness for.

That being said, after becoming comfortable with the general process of how one goes about creating a 3d model and then unwrapping and texturing it, as well as how all of it works, I was able to discover a similar level of comfort I feel when I'm writing code, where I feel like I'm 'on top of it all,' for lack of better words. Overall, I'm very proud of this, and I'm just as proud of what I gained from doing the project as I am of the project itself, and I could definately work with and alongside other 3d modeling professionals now.
